On a recent trip to Xi¡¯an, British Minister of State of Creation, University & Skill pointed out that ¡°Chinese Language Craze¡± and ¡°Chinese Wave¡± have now exposed China to an increasing number of people around the world that were once shy away from this mysterious place. Thinking about studying in a city with 5,000 years of history, isn¡¯t it exciting? This is Xi¡¯an, and it is where Bodi School located; a school that was selected by Hanban as ¡°Center for Promoting Chinese Language at Primary & Secondary Level¡± in 2007. Bodi is not only a famous school in parents¡¯ eyes who had cultivated a student got the first place in Shaanxi Province¡¯s University Entrance Examination, but also a place for oversea students desired to study in.
Founded in 1993, Xi¡¯an Bodi School is the largest and best boarding school in northwestern China with a campus of 225 Mu(about 15 hectares). Bodi has over 3,000 faculty and students including more than 70 oversea students. In 2001, Bodi was promoted to Provincial Key Secondary School and started to accept foreign applications. It is the earliest of its kind to provide education for international students in Shaanxi.
Integrating Cultures of East and West Pioneering in Chinese Primary and Secondary International Education Internationalized education ideas and learning atmosphere of Bodi has attracted over 200 oversea students from USA, South Korea, Japan, Thailand, Singapore, Australia, Brazil, Kyrghizstan, Uzbekistan etc. to study in Bodi for long periods. After completing high school curriculum in Bodi School ,many of those students had been successfully admitted by Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University, Fudan University, Beijing Foreign Language Studies University, and some famous universities in Shaanxi province to continue their further education. Simultaneously, the number of students who come to Bodi for short-term Chinese laguage and Culture studies through the communicative activities between other oversea schools is over 700 per year.
Holding the belief of ¡°To Create and To Pioneer¡±, Bodi has been constantly working closely with educational institutions and actively searching for qualified youth talents around the globe, with a goal of creating a unique ¡°Chinese Education¡± experience for students at primary and secondary levels.
At Bodi, oversea students at primary level will be assigned to a regular class after enrollment. For students that may have difficulty with the language, a one-to-one tutoring service will be provided on demand. Students at secondary level will be trained for Chinese language based on their proficiency test results before entering regular classes. Bodi offers a great variety of language lessons for students to choose from, including: Pinyin, Listening, Speaking, Reading, Writing, Chinese Intensive Reading, Music Chinese, English, PE, Computer ,Arts etc..
Oversea students who have passed Level 4 in HSK test may study in the same class as Chinese peers. Senior high school students with Level 5 or above in HSK will be provided courses especially-designed with an aim to enter Tsinghua University and Peking University. Upon graduation, these students will receive high school diplomas and recommendations from Bodi.
Learning by Experiencing With an oriental intention to provide education for the children of foreign experts working in China. Bodi has accumulated rich experience in international education along the past 14 years. Fostering Friendship through Table Tennis
Bodi¡¯s Zhishan Dongliang Table Tennis Club is the largest table tennis training center and the only stadium in Northwestern China that can hold National First Division table tennis matches. ITTF¡¯s vice president paid many visits to our club. In 2006, our club was elected ¡°National Key Table Tennis Center¡± by the Table Tennis & Badminton Administrative Center of the National P. E. Administration. In the past couple of years, Bodi Zhishan Table Tennis Club successfully arranged several training programs for professional teams of over 100 athletes from various countries, including Mexico, Egypt, Libya and Australia. In the meantime, many Hong Kong and Taiwan table tennis lovers came to Bodi for short period training. What¡¯s more, our school was responsible for providing training space for disabled players who were going to attend the Beijing Paralympic Games in 2008. Those players¡¯ got 5 gold medals, 4 silver medals and one bronze medal in the 2008 Paralympic Games. In Oct of 2009, Chinese Paralympic table tennis team members came to Bodi again for the preparation of 2012 Paralympic Games. Table tennis is widely acknowledged as the national sport of China; Bodi School popularizes table tennis among adolescents and provides another platform for international friendly communications.
Hold Hands with Foreign Schools to Create an International Campus
Bodi has been striving to provide its students and faculty opportunities of exploring the world, such as summer camps and short-visits to USA, Europe, Japan, South Korea and other parts of Asia. At present,Bodi has become sister school of over 20 schools in 7 major countries. Friendship between Irvine city(California,USA) and Bodi School has been lasting for 14 years and we have carried out grand students¡¯ communication activities with Nishiyamato Academy (Japan) for 14 years successively. These exchanges brought a wealth of educational information and foreign equivalents¡¯ friendship and accelerated the internationalization pace of Bodi. At the end of our visit, we interviewed Principal Fengyu Yang of Xi¡¯an Bodi School, who is also the Chair of Shaanxi Provincial Association of Private Primary and Secondary Educational Research.
